About us

Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) of Finland has worked for over 75 years as an independent organisation with lighting professionals and companies to promote the use of good and appropriate lighting.
IES cooperates with similar organisations in other Nordic countries. It also actively collaborates with the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) and has representatives working with the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).

Objectives

  • to spread information about the significant role of quality lighting as a production, comfort, health and security enhancing factor
  • to exchange information, experiences and opinions in matters of light and lighting through a variety of presentations, publications, research and education
  • to make motions for different specifications, recommendations and directives within the field of action
  • to liaise with related organisations
  • to represent Finland in international collaborations with similar organisations

Publications

IES publishes VALO magazine which is a trade magazine for electrical and lighting designers and consultants, architects, interior architects, electrical contractors, for people in charge of lighting in energy companies and road administration and for other people working within the lighting industry.
