Introduction to AI in lighting design 22.5.

Join us for this 4 hour afternoon online-session to learn about AI tools useful to lighting designers and anyone working with light. Speaker Faraz Izhar will introduce and explain possibilities and differences of selected AI tools.

Content of the afternoon:

• Short introduction to Generative AI – LLMs, image models, and video models: what they are and where each fits in a lighting designer’s workflow?
• LLM deep dive – Writing technically rich prompts that produce lighting-accurate visualizations, not generic AI outputs; covering colour temperature, beam angles, fixture type, material interactions, and more
• Image generation deep dive – Image generation tools in practice: Midjourney and Nano Banana, with brief coverage of other key models
• Video generation deep dive – (Google Veo, Kling, Runway, Seedance) : creating short lighting transition sequences for client presentations and design reviews
• Integration platforms (Weavy, Krea, Freepik): consolidating multiple AI tools into a single streamlined design workflow
• AI agents: a quick introduction to building custom tools that automate repetitive tasks in your own practice. Both for visual and technical documentation tasks.
• Closing thoughts on responsible use, ethics, and the Designer-in-the-Loop principle. AI as co-pilot, not replacement

Course is done in co-operation between Nordic lighting associations and is aimed for members in Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden (From Finland Suomen Valoteknillinen Seura and Suomen Valotaiteen Seura FLASH).  Course language is English.
